CHEEK IMPLANTS

Facial appearance depends not only on the skin quality of the face but also the bony structures that make up the face. Aesthetically pleasing facial forms takes on the appearance of different sizes and shapes. The middle third of the face is made up of the cheekbones and the upper jaw. By reshaping and augmenting the cheeks one can improve the facial appearance. Some times cheek augmentation will be combined with other procedures to enhance the over all look.

Procedure: Cheek augmentation is performed with either IV sedation or general anesthesia depending on whether other procedures are performed. Incisions are placed above the upper teeth to expose the upper jaw and cheekbone region. Following this placement of a cheek implant will be placed over the cheek area. The material of the implant will be discussed prior, and Dr. Clemenza and you will decide which one fits your needs. Some of the materials include: gortex, medpor, or silicone. Following the surgery a dressing will be placed and you will be instructed to keep ice on your face and your head elevated. Swelling will last approximately 10-12 days with possible bruising.
