Chin Reshaping

The chin and lower jaw are essential to an aesthetically pleasing profile. Many patients have a recessive chin, or lack of proper protrusion of the chin. At the initial office visit, Dr. Clemenza will evaluate your profile and facial appearance and may obtain special x-rays and photos in order to properly diagnosis the problem. Surgery to improve the shape and size of the chin includes chin augmentation and/or genioplasty.

Genioplasty involves reshaping the chin to give it a more natural appearance. Chin augmentation involves adding to the pre-existing chin with different implants made of silicone.

The Chin Augmentation or Genioplasty Procedure

Surgery is performed with IV sedation in our surgical site. The procedure is performed either through an incision in the mouth or under the chin, depending on what type of augmentation or reshaping procedure is performed. Sometimes the chin augmentation or genioplasty is performed with other procedures such as a neck-lift or face-lift. Following the surgery, a dressing (jaw bra) will be placed around the chin and face to support the area. The doctor will have you wear this for approximately 5-7 days, but swelling will not resolve totally for some time after the surgery. Final results and outcome should not be expected until at least 6 months after surgery.

Eating after surgery,  clear liquids for the first 24 hours and then soft foods that do not require a lot of chewing for the next 4-5 days. If you feel you are a candidate for the procedure please do not hesitate and call our office for a consultation.
