Oral Surgeon John W. Clemenza, DMD, MD, FACS


Dr. John ClemenzaDr. John Clemenza, born in 1966 in Scarsdale New York, is a son of a schoolteacher and small business owner. He attended IONA Preparatory High School located in Scarsdale, N.Y. where he was involved in sports including, football and tennis. He is the youngest of three children. Both of his older sisters practiced general dentistry in New York and Connecticut.

In 1984, Dr. Clemenza moved to Pennsylvania to attend Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA. He received his Bachelors degree in Biology, was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, and played one year of college football. It was there he met his wife and they now have three children. After completing college one year early in 1987, Dr. Clemenza attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine until 1991 where he received his D.M.D. degree and Drexel Medical School where he received his M.D degree.  He was accepted to a six year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. This intensive program consisted of medical school, two years of general surgery training and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery training. In 1997, Dr. Clemenza was accepted as a Fellow in Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland and at Walton Hospital in Liverpool, England. Dr. Clemenza and his family had the opportunity to live abroad while training in England and experienced not only a different life style but also another type of health care system.

After completing his training, Dr. Clemenza and his family moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he accepted a teaching position in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital. Following this he went into private practice with a group of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons in the Pittsburgh area. Dr. Clemenza then decided to open his own office in Hermitage, PA. He decided that Hermitage and the Shenango Valley was a wonderful area to raise children and become part of the community. He currently has his own practice located inside Linden Pointe, on Rt 18, in Hermitage, PA.

Dr. Clemenza is Board Certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons, and licensed to practice dentistry and medicine in the state of Pennsylvania. He has published and presented articles both locally and nationally dealing with trauma, reconstructive, oncology and cosmetic surgery. Dr. Clemenza continues to keep up to date with new technology and procedures by attending numerous education classes and the state and national meetings.

Dr. Clemenza was among 1,622 Initiates from around the world who became Fellows of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) during the Convocation ceremony at the College’s 2013 annual Clinical Congress in Washington, DC. Read the press release to learn more.
