Laser Skin Resurfacing
A dressing may be applied after your procedure. This dressing should remain in place until you return to our office. Keep your head elevated at night to prevent swelling. If your skin is swollen or tight, drink through a straw. Ice packs should be applied to the treated area for two days after the procedure. This helps with the swelling and pain relief.
Cleanse the treated areas with a mixture of 50% hydrogen peroxide and 50% water four (4) times a day. Gently soak off any weepy or crusty material, or all previously applied ointment with moist Q-tips or a moist soft clean cloth. Cold compresses using a soft clean cloth should be applied after cleansing, Dr. Clemenza recommends using bottled water unless otherwise instructed. Apply the prescribed ointment liberally after the moist compresses. Keep area moist with ointment at all times for seven (7) days after the procedure or until the area is completely healed. Occasionally a crust will form over the area. Do not pick or rub it. You should continue to keep the area moist with ointment and the crusting will resolve. If prescribed apply the facial dressing per Dr. Clemenza’s instructions.
Reapply the ointment after showering or washing your face. Discontinue the use of cosmetics and topical medications until instructed otherwise. Avoid exposure to the sun at all times. The treated area will be very susceptible to sun exposure and damage can occur after treated areas are completely healed. You may go outside but YOU MUST USE sun block of 30 SPF or greater even on overcast days.
You will have several post-operative appointments following your surgery, please keep all appointments. It is important that Dr. Clemenza has the opportunity to evaluate your healing progress. As needed, different ointment or dressings may be recommended depending on how you are responding to treatment.
The postoperative home care is essential for a good result. Please follow these instructions carefully on a daily basis.
